Medical Writing
Services has considerable
experience of the challenges of writing these short, but often highly
demanding,
pieces of text. We liaise constantly with clients to define the purpose
of the abstract (e.g. journal article, meeting), the type (e.g. informative
or indicative), and the format according to the journal requirements
(e.g. standard or structured). We focus on the need to communicate
clearly and concisely according to the purpose of the abstract and
within the constraints of journal requirements or meeting organisers. |
| This type of medical writing requires a good understanding
of the type and purpose of the abstract. Abstracts of journal articles
should allow the readers to judge easily whether they should read
the entire article, whereas abstracts for meetings should allow attendees
to judge whether it is worthwhile attending specific oral or poster
presentations. An abstract needs to be understood without reference
to the article itself, because it may appear separate from the article
on databases, or, in the case of a meeting, no manuscript will be
available. |
